should I buy an extended car warranty?

Should I Buy an Extended Car Warranty?

When you buy or lease a new or preowned vehicle, you want the peace of mind that your purchase is covered for the road ahead. Having an extended service plan can help protect against unexpected repair bills by having additional coverage of many vehicle components, plus it’ll ensure that your vehicle is serviced by factory-trained technicians using certified parts.

It’s a smart way to safeguard your investment – especially since today’s modern vehicles are more advanced than ever before. From safety features, like electronic stability control, collision sensors and blind-spot monitoring, and high-tech equipment, like 3D navigation, hands-free voice commands and touchscreen displays, not just any repair shop will do.

Benefits of an Extended Service Plan

Extended Service Plans Protect Beyond the Factory Warranty
In Canada, the average age of a vehicle is around 10-years-old as owners are keeping their cars beyond the time and distance constraints of their original factory warranty. With an extended service plan, you can choose the time, distance and component coverage that suits your lifestyle and, in most cases, roll it into your purchase or lease for just dollars a day.

Extended Service Plans Save You Money
Did you know that the average repair cost with today’s technologically advanced vehicles is $1,100? Hourly shop rates also hover around $100/hour, causing simple repairs to add up very quickly. By purchasing an extended vehicle service plan, covered repairs won’t have to be paid out of pocket. In some cases, the cost of a major covered repair may be more than what you paid for your extended service plan, saving you money in the long run.

Extended Service Plans Increase Resale Value
When it comes time to sell your vehicle, having an extended warranty will positively impact its resale and trade-in value. At the dealership level, many manufacturers offer beneficial loyalty trade-in or trade-up programs for those owners who are enrolled in an extended service plan. If you sell privately, you can often transfer the remaining cover to the next owner. Not only does this add to the buyer’s peace of mind, but it can also justify a higher selling price due to the immense value that an extended warranty provides.

Extended Service Plans Ensure Customer Satisfaction
Imagine being stranded on the side of the road from an unexpected breakdown and having to arrange a tow truck to a service facility, get quotes for the repairs, and pay a hefty bill once completed? By protecting your vehicle with an extended warranty, you have the peace of mind that your vehicle is being taken care of by a trusted service provider with factory-trained technicians using advanced diagnostic tools and certified OEM parts. The result is a repair that is fixed right the first time so you can get on with your day-to-day life in a safe and reliable vehicle.

Extended Service Plans Provide Extra Perks
Many extended warranties offer added perks to vehicle owners that purchase plans. This can include rental allowances or 24-hour roadside assistance, depending on the coverage selected, which can help reduce stress and avoid extra costs if your vehicle is in for a repair or broken down. Roadside assistance can include services like battery boost, tire change, lockout service, emergency fuel delivery, towing and more, which can inspire confidence on trips both long and short.

Not all Extended Warranties are Created Equal

When choosing an extended coverage for your vehicle, not all plans are the same. Programs may offer various component coverage options, time and distance plans, and not all plans may apply to all automotive makes and models.

For Dodge, Chrysler, Ram and Jeep owners, Mopar Vehicle Protection® has been the preferred extended coverage provider for over 35 years.

It’s the only protection plan backed by FCA Canada Inc., making Mopar Vehicle Protection the true MVP of extended warranties for Dodge, Chrysler, Ram and Jeep® vehicles.

Service Contracts have $0, $100 or $200 deductibles for the term of the contract and are dependent on the contract selected. A deductible does not apply to towing or to rental allowance.
