Ram 1500 TRX: The Differences Are Dramatic
The new TRX may have taken some of the best elements of the rest of the Ram line and made it its own, but it didn’t stop there—it elected to lap the competition thanks to a thorough reworking of its design.
The frame of the TRX is a whopping 74-percent different than the standard Ram 1500; this is no retread. A Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock system—the most sophisticated ever provided on a production truck—uses its 2.5-inch diameter pistons and remote reservoirs to redefine what it means to experience a sensational drive across all terrain. Eighteen-inch wheels and an 11.8-inch ground clearance promise to make you the lord/lady of the tarmac and the trail, while a wickedly high-performance air induction system filters approximately four times as much dirt and debris as Ford’s Raptor.
Of course, that’s just a tantalizing taste of what’s really at work within the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. The only way to fully appreciate the merits of this machine is to know and love its Hellcat engine.
Ram 1500 TRX: Super, Just Without the Cape
First and foremost, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is a performance truck. If there was ever any doubt about that, it’ll be drained away the moment you leap behind the wheel and experience the startlingly powerful Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine.
Specially modified to handle the worst (or best, if you prefer) of what the trail can throw at you no matter the conditions, this souped-up V8 scorches with 702 horses and 650 lb-ft of torque. The twin-screw supercharger delivers on-demand torque, with a max speed of 14,600 RPM. Five-inch exhaust tips and a brand-new hood scoop and passthrough Ram logo keep air moving, and prove that virtually no design element is purely for show. Plus, a four-wheel-drive system and made-for-this-model-year, high-torque-capacity eight-speed automatic transmission are onboard. All told, Stellantis estimates you’ll be titillated with a 0 to 96 km/h time of only 4.5 seconds.
Oh, and one more thing: those engine numbers represent best-in-class HP and torque among light-duty trucks.
Ram 1500 TRX: In Control. Out of This World.
Everything about the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX seems otherworldly, sure, but you’ll keep a firm grip on things with the supreme command you’ll experience through Launch Control.
The new TRX is the first in the line to come equipped with Launch Control with Launch Assist. It monitors wheel slippage and controls engine RPM, aiming to always achieve the finest and fastest acceleration rate imaginable. And with a flat-bottom performance steering wheel and integrated aluminum shift paddles, you’ll have more control over those 702 horses than you dared believe.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is available now and starts at $97,865 for Canadian drivers.
